<img src = "http://z.about.com/d/seniortravel/1/0/v/B/-/-/GriananAileach.jpg" hspace="5" align="center" width="300" height="201"> <p>The hill fortress of Grian&#225;n Ailigh, in Ireland's County Donegal, dates back many centuries. Some believe that the original hill fort was built by Ireland's ancient gods; it's more likely that it was built in the first centuries after Christ. In its heyday (the eighth through eleventh centuries), this ringfort was controlled by the southern U&#237; N&#233;ills. How Safe Is Your Tour Bus?
<img src = "http://z.about.com/d/seniortravel/1/0/S/0/-/-/Tour_Bus_1.jpg" hspace="5" align="right" width="170" height="128"> <p>Last week's <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/03/05/arizona.bus.crash/index.html?hpt=Sbin">fatal bus crash in Arizona</a> has brought bus safety into the news headlines once again. The bus in last week's accident was operating illegally, according to the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/about/news/news-releases/2010/phoenix-bus-crash.aspx">Department of Transportation</a>. Arriving at an Airport Near You: Full-Body Scanners

By the end of this summer, 11 U.S. airports will receive full-body scanners.</p> <p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/od/seniortravelbasics/f/WholeBody.htm">Full-body scanning</a>, also called <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/od/seniortravelbasics/f/WholeBody.htm">whole-body imaging</a>, is a screening method that allows security officials to see through all the layers of clothing a passenger wears. The process is controversial because it enables security screeners to see images of unclothed passengers.</p> <p>The Transportation Security Administration offers air travelers an alternative to passing through the full-body scanners. Would You Pay a Hotel Resort Fee?
<p>Yesterday I booked a hotel room for an event I'm attending later this year. As I read the "fine print" on the reservation screen, I realized that the hotel would also charge me a "<a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/od/accommodations/qt/ResortFees.htm">resort fee</a>" of $10 per day, which would cover fitness center access, a daily newspaper, two bottles of water, local calls (20 minutes per day), toll-free and credit card calls and internet access.</p> <p>Didn't some of those things used to be free? It doesn't cost the hotel anything to allow me to use my own telephone credit card, so why am I paying for the privilege? And what if I don't use the fitness center or drink the water? Can I ask the hotel to take these charges off my bill?</p> <p>Perhaps. Resort fee charges vary from hotel to hotel; some charge $5, some charge $20 and some don't charge anything at all. Hotel resort fee policies are equally variable. Some hotels will remove the resort fee from your bill and others will not.</p> <p>What do you think? Should hotels assess "mandatory" resort fees or just bundle these charges into your bill? Would you pay a resort fee? Take our poll and share your opinion in the comments box below.</p> <p><b>More About:</b> <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/od/accommodations/qt/ResortFees.htm">Hotel Resort Fees</a> &#124; <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/od/accommodations/qt/MotelReservations.htm">Making Motel Reservations</a> &#124; <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/od/accommodations/a/ChooseMotel.htm">How to Choose a Motel</a></p> <p> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE= "javaScript" SRC="http://guidepolls.about.com/seniortravel/7537472335/poll.js?linkback=<!--#echo var="SCRIPT_URI"-->"></script> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/b/2010/03/02/would-you-pay-a-hotel-resort-fee.htm">Would You Pay a Hotel Resort Fee?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/">About.com Senior Travel</a> on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 at 09:41:16.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/b/2010/03/02/would-you-pay-a-hotel-resort-fee.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://seniortravel.about.com/b/2010/03/02/would-you-pay-a-hotel-resort-fee.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://seniortravel.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://seniortravel.about.com/b/2010/03/02/would-you-pay-a-hotel-resort-fee.htm&#038;zItl=Would You Pay a Hotel Resort Fee?">Email this</a></p>
