BBC News is reporting that some passengers flying from Heathrow and Manchester airports will be selected for full-body scanning prior to their flights. If they refuse the scan, airport security officials can refuse them permission to fly. These new rules apply to children as well as adults.

Whole body imaging has been in the news since the attempted Christmas Day bombing on Northwest Airlines flight 253. Transportation officials in the U.S. and UK have stepped up installation of full-body scanners in airports.

In the U.S., airline passengers can request a pat-down instead of a full-body scan. However, in the UK, according to the BBC, passengers selected for a full-body scan must agree to the procedure or they will be refused permission to fly.

What do you think? Should the UK offer an alternative screening method to these passengers? Are U.S. TSA policies too lenient? Is the right to privacy superceded by the government's mission to protect the traveling public? Take our poll and share your thoughts in a comment.
